Supplies:

  • Seashells. The best place to find these is actually at your local dollar store.
  • Craft paint. A few of your favorite colors, plus a glitter paint.
  • Rhinestones.
  • Tweezers.
  • Paintbrush.
  • Craft glue or a hot glue gun.

Start by picking out the seashells you want to use, and give them a good cleaning. I used a baby wipe, but a paper towel and water will work as well. You just want to get them clean and pretty. Now grab your paint colors, and put them in a paint palette or on a paper plate.

To get a pretty mermaid look to these, we’re going to create an ombre effect with the paint colors. Start on one side of the shell and paint it, feathering the paint out near the middle of the shell. Flip it around and add another color of paint, keeping it brighter near it’s end and feathering it into the other paint in the middle. The paint dries brighter, but you can always let this dry and add another layer for even more vibrant shells.

You can see above I made another one using blue and orange. And for the last one is used pink in the back, blue in the middle, and purple on the front of the shell.

While the shells are drying, go ahead and pick out your rhinestones. Now grab your glitter paint and put a thin layer all over your shells. I used a blue tinted paint, but you can use a clear glitter paint or whatever you’d like! Now just glue on your gems using craft glue or a hot glue gun.

And you’re all done! Make as many as you’d like, and you can even try painting different patterns to make them really unique!
