This is the time of year when I would teach my little ones about some of the creepy critters of the world. Spiders were always a favorite, and I loved teaching the kids about how helpful those eight legged creatures are. This paper plate spider project was always one of my favorites with the kids. It helped them with their fine motor skills and they always made the cutest spiders I have ever seen!

Did you know there are over 27,00 different species of spiders? Thankfully, not many are as large as a paper dinner plate! Seriously though, spiders outside are great to have in your yard. They eat a lot of nuisance bugs, including flies, aphids, mosquitos, and even roaches.
Let’s get started! You will need one paper plate, eight strips of black paper, and eight googly eyes for each spider that you make.

Start by coloring the paper plate black. You could also paint it or use a black paper plate.
Then, cut eight strips of black construction paper. Fold each strip like a paper fan. Now, use a little bit of school glue on each leg and glue it to the back of the colored paper plate.
Once you finish gluing the legs onto your adorable spider, add a little bit of glue to the front top of the plate, and carefully place the googly eyes on to the glue. Typically, spiders with eight eyes have two rows of four eyes. Now you have the cutest spider around…he just doesn’t eat bugs for you.
That’s it! I hope this fun paper plate spider project has inspired you to learn a little more about these awesome critters and create your own adorable little spider!
