As we are preparing for the beginning of the school year, I am remembering my time in the classroom with bittersweet emotions. I do every year, especially as my own boys get older. When I was in a classroom, I would have my little learners create a name painting craft the first week of school. And, even though we didn’t make something quite like this, we did make plenty of name plate crafts!
Name Painting Craft
Here’s another cool name art project that incorporates cursive practice, too!
Name Paint Supplies:
- Construction paper.
- Washi or painters tape.
- Paint.
- Scissors.
- Paint brushes.
This fun craft is super easy and can be done by elementary school crafters with very little supervision. It is great for letter recognition. Plus, when the projects are finished, they can be used for classroom decor or labeling!

Let’s get started on these cute DIY name painting crafts! Firstly, gather all of your supplies. This will make crafting a lot easier.
Begin by deciding how large you want the name plates to be. However, if you want to use this project for labeling, you will probably want to cut the paper into quarters.
Then, cut the tape to spell out the names. Then place the tape onto the construction paper. However, if you want to create labels for classroom supplies, simply use the tape to spell out the supplies on the paper and follow the next several steps.
Finally, it’s time for the fun part! Paint the construction paper. We mixed several colors to make our name plates.
Before the paint is fully dry, carefully peal away the washi tape to reveal your little learner’s name.
