My favorite gifts from my boys were always their handmade cards from school. I loved their teachers’ creativity, and I still have all of their homemade cards more than a decade later. And, as a teacher, I loved the cards the kids could make with very little help from me. And, this Easy Painted Mother’s Day Card Idea doesn’t require a lot of adult help for younger elementary aged kids with developed fine motor skills.
Easy Painted Mother’s Day Card Idea
You could include one of our Mother’s Day poems for kids on the back side of this project!
Card Project Supplies:
- Two sheets of construction paper.
- Scissors.
- School glue.
- Pencil.
- Craft paint.
This card is the perfect project for Mother’s Day. And, if you have a digital cutting machine, you could easily make something similar and let younger toddlers finger paint a card for mom!
Let’s get started!
The first thing we did when we made our painted Mother’s Day Cards was add some paint to the piece of construction paper we were putting on the bottom. We used white for our cards. Then, we folded the paper in half and spread the paint around. We wanted to add a little more color to the card, so we added more paint, and folded the card again.

While we waited for the paint to dry, we cut out the M’s and the heart. I sketched out where I wanted the letters to be. But, to make the letters symmetrical, I folded the paper and cut out half of an M shape. Then, I repeated that step for the second M. Finally, I folded the paper in half and cut out the heart in the middle.
Once the paint was fully dry, we spread out school glue on the back of the MOM paper and carefully glued it over the painted paper.
You could do a similar project with thumbprints instead of folded paint too.
