DIY Fall Leaf Collection Album

DIY Fall Leaf Collection Album

Hello! One of the best things about fall is the changing leaf colors. The fall foliage is so beautiful, and my kids love picking up the prettiest leaves they can find on our walks. For the fall leaves your kids want to keep, you can help them make this DIY Fall Leaf Collection Album! Here’s what you’ll need.

Supplies:

  • Leaves
  • Wax Paper
  • Construction Paper
  • Paper Cutter
  • Stapler (or hole punch and string if making more than 6 or 7 pages)
  • Marker
  • Iron
  • Ironing Board
  • Thin towels

Start by getting your iron set to high and find some towels. You can use any kind of towel you like, but I usually use these thin cleaning towels since they’ll get a bit of wax on them. Check the size of your construction paper, and then cut a piece of wax paper a half inch smaller than the of your construction paper. You’ll need two sheets of wax paper for every page you want in your album. You can put between 1 and 4 leaves on every page, depending on their size. You want to leave at least an inch of space between each leaf and at the sides of the paper. Lay down one towel on your ironing board. Set down one sheet of wax paper, and place your chosen leaves on top.

Lay another sheet of wax paper on top, making sure the edges are even. Then lay another towel on top. You’re basically making a towel-wax paper-leaves-wax paper-towel sandwich. Now gently iron on top of the towel, adhering the two pieces of wax paper together. It should only take a few passes with the iron before the wax paper is fused together and the leaves are locked in place. Fair warning, if you iron the piece too long your room may start to smell a little gross from overheating the leaves! The first page of your album is done!

Now go ahead and make as many pages as you’d like! If you’re doing more than 6 or 7 pages, you’ll want to use the hole punch and string method of tying the pages together rather than using a stapler. Stack all your leaf pages together, and sandwich them in between your two pieces of construction paper. Make sure they’re all lined up on one edge.

And staple that side 3-4 times to make your book! Now all you need to do is title it, and you can even add some stickers or other decorations if you’d like!

And you’re all done! I hope you have fun taking a fall walk with your family and making this DIY Fall Leaf Collection Album! For another great nature walk project, check out my Nature Walk Picture Frame Tutorial!
