  • 1 Sheet of Red and Yellow Construction Paper.
  • Glue Stick or Tape.
  • Scissors.
  • Optional – Ruler

Begin by cutting off a strip of the red construction paper along the long edge. You can use the ruler for this step. This will be your lantern handle. Set it aside until later.

Now, roll the larger, remaining sheet of red construction paper into a tube. Then, secure the tube with tape or glue.

Next, fold the sheet of yellow sheet of construction paper in half lengthwise. Then, cut slits in the yellow paper approximately 1 inch apart and 3/4 of an inch from the edge of the paper. I used my ruler to mark the cut lines. This kept the lantern and the trim edges uniform. If you cut too far down, just add a small piece of tape to the backside of the yellow paper.

Then, unfold the yellow sheet of paper. Line the top (long) edge of the yellow paper up with the top of the red tube. Secure the top corner to the red tube with a small piece of tape. Repeat on the bottom of the red paper tube. Be sure to line up the edges. The yellow paper is slightly larger than the red paper, so it will bow out slightly.

Then, wrap the yellow paper around the red tube and secure the other side with more tape or glue.

Finally, glue the handle of the lantern on the inside of the red tube.
