Chinese Diorama Printable Craft for Chinese New Year

We are back with another printable historic village! This Chinese diorama printable craft is just in time for Chinese New Year. Learn about the history of this special day with our Chinese New Year lesson plan, and then build a bit of Chinese history with this wonderful set! It includes over 25 human characters, a gorgeous ornate archway, an amazing four tiered pagoda and two more house structures to create an entire village!

How to Make this Chinese Diorama Printable Craft

Print all 8 pages on lightweight to heavyweight card stock. Color all parts before cutting them out.

All tabs fit into slots of corresponding numbers (each are labeled on the pages). To cut slots, use an exacto knife or razor blade with adult supervision. Slots are indicated by short, heavy lines.

The figure supports of special sizes are marked to correspond with the correct characters. Unmarked supports will fit any of the remaining people. To stand the figures, lay the support on the back of the figure so that the bottom of the support is a little lower than the bottom of the figure (approximately 1/8″ inch). Paste the small area above the dotted line to the back of the figure. Fold up on the dotted line to form the support. You can see an example here:

To Construct the Chinese Pagoda

  1. Cut out roof section from Sheet 5. Score and fold on dotted lines. Paste together to form roof as indicated. Hold pasted parts together with paper clips until dry.
  2. Cut out 4th floor section from Sheet 7. Score and fold on dotted lines. Paste as instructed on the page to form a hexagon. Insert tabs of fourth floor section into slots in roof. Bend and paste in place.
  3. Cut out roof C from Sheet 7. Paste two sections of roof C together. Score and fold on dotted lines. Do NOT paste roof together to form a hexagon yet. Insert tabs marked 3 into slots marked 3. Bend and paste. After these are inserted and pasted, paste ends of roof C section together.
  4. Similarly to Step 2: Cut out third floor section from Sheet 6. Score and fold on dotted lines. Paste as indicated to form a hexagon. Insert tabs on third floor section into slots of roof C. Bend and paste.
  5. Similarly to Step 3: Cut out roof B from Sheet 7. Paste two sections of roof B together. Score and fold on dotted lines. Do NOT paste roof together to form a hexagon yet. Insert tabs marked 2 into slots marked 2. Bend and paste. After these are inserted and pasted, paste ends of roof B section together.
  6. Similarly to Step 2: Cut out second floor section from Sheet 6. Score and fold on dotted lines. Paste as indicated to form a hexagon. Insert tabs on second floor section into slots of roof B. Bend and paste.
  7. Similarly to Step 3: Cut out roof A from Sheet 7. Paste two sections of roof A together. Score and fold on dotted lines. Do NOT paste roof together to form a hexagon yet. Insert tabs marked 1 into slots marked 1. Bend and paste. After these are inserted and pasted, paste ends of roof A section together.
  8. Similarly to Step 2: Cut out first floor sections from Sheet 5. Paste two sections of first floor together. Score and fold on dotted lines. Paste as indicated to form a hexagon. Insert tabs on first floor section into slots of roof A. Bend and paste.

To Construct the Chinese Village Houses

  1. Cut out two sections of house No. 1 from Sheet 1. Score and fold on dotted lines. Paste sections together forming sides of house.
  2. Cut out roof for house No. 1 from Sheet 4. Score and fold on dotted lines. Cut slots as indicated in center and at corners. Paste together to form roof.
  3. Insert tabs on house into slots on roof. Bend and paste.
  4. Cut out corners for roof and top ornament. Insert top ornament into slots No 1 and No. 2 on top of roof. Bend and paste.
  5. Insert corner pieces into slots at corners. Bend and paste. See small sketch at bottom of Sheet 4.
  6. Cut out house No. 2 from Sheet 2. Score and fold on dotted lines. Paste sections together forming sides of house.
  7. Cut out roof for house No. 2 from Sheet 3. Score and fold on dotted lines. Insert tabs on house into roof section. Bend and paste.
