Beaded Barefoot Sandals

Hello! I’m so excited to show you how to make these adorable and oh so easy Beaded Barefoot Sandals! They’re perfect for going to the beach, taking photos in your backyard, or wearing by the pool.

Beaded Barefoot Sandals

These are super comfortable and flexible while still being durable enough to wear while walking around barefoot all day. Also, they’re really pretty and you can customize them to fit whatever outfit you’re wearing. I’m showing you the basic steps to make a simple pair, but they can get as detailed as you’d like them to be depending on your supplies and skills. Let’s get started!

Supplies:

  • Beading thread (I love Dandyline for strength)
  • Seed beads
  • Small glass or stone beads
  • A larger flat bead or stone. I used a round drilled shell piece.
  • Two crimp beads
  • Lobster claw clasp
  • 8-10 small jump rings
  • Sharp scissors
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Crimp bead pliers

Start by cutting off around 2 feet of your beading thread. Then start stringing on your seed beads onto the thread. You’ll want a couple inches of beads in the middle of your thread. To test the length, wrap the beads around your second or middle toe. Make sure that the loop is big enough to slide on and off of your toe easily. Now take the two ends of your thread and hold them together.

String on a single small bead, and then 5 seed beads. Continue this pattern for a few inches, until the length is about halfway up your foot. Then string on your big flat centerpiece bead. I like finding shell beads for this, but you can use anything. Just make sure it’s not too heavy. The lighter the beads you use, the more comfortable the sandal will be and the prettier it will lay on your foot. After the big bead is on, continue your pattern of one small bead and 5 seed beads the rest of the way up the foot.

Try the sandal on your foot every so often to make sure it fits correctly. You want to be able to hold the threads around your ankle and still point your toes. It’s better to have the sandal slightly loose than too tight. When you get to your ankle, you’re going to separate the two threads. Then continue the small bead and seed bead pattern up one thread until it reaches to the back of your ankle. Thread on a crimp bead and a jump ring, and then slip the thread back through the crimp bead and through several of the beads.

Use your crimping pliers to tighten down the crimp bead, then open up the jump ring with your pliers and add a lobster claw clasp. Now you’re going to do the same thing on the other thread, making sure it fits around your ankle well. This time just add a single jump ring to the end.

If you need the size to be adjustable, add either a small length of chain or a few jump rings onto the end.
