My kids are SO ready to go back to school. Yesterday they were even watching TV with their backpacks on, wishing summer was over – I kid you not! Have you ever heard of such a thing? So I’ve thrown together some back to school worksheets in the hopes of capitalizing on their summer boredom woes. But these will also be great for kids in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade as a way of giving them some fun worksheets to welcome them to the new school year.
Below you will find three worksheets welcoming kids back to school. The first is a word search full of school-related words. Next you’ll find a word ladder that (perhaps a little optimistically) allows students to transform the word “class” into the word “bliss.” The last printable word puzzle is a word scramble. Not only do kids get to unscramble the letters to make each word, but there’s also a hidden message in there. Fun, right?
Don’t forget to print out the answer keys, too. I’ve provided them below their counterparts, and they can be printed just the same way as the worksheets themselves.

There really are some pretty great aspects of the back-to-school time of year. School shopping is usually a good time, and while new clothes are awesome, I am always happy to have an excuse to buy school supplies. There’s something about new pencils, crayons, rulers, etc. that makes me way happier than it should! Of course, most kids are also looking forward to seeing so many of their friends again after the long summer break; and even though it can be kind of nerve wracking, it’s always exciting to get to explore a new classroom.
