Amazing Apple Crisp Recipe
Ingredients
Filling:
- 6-8 medium Granny Smith apples
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Topping:
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup butter

- Large mixing bowl
- Medium mixing bowl
- Pie dish or other baking dish
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Cutting board
- Knife
- Peeler
- Fork or pastry blender
- Oven
Start by preheating your oven to 375ºF. While it heats up, you’ll be peeling all of your apples. I used 6 for a smaller dessert, but you can use up to 8 depending on their size. Cut them in half, then in quarters.
Core the quartered apples. I prefect using a knife, but you can use an apple corer if you like. Then cut each quartered apple into slices.
Add a tablespoon of lemon juice, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 3 tablespoons flour.
Next add 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice. Then use your clean hands to mix the apples until they’re well coated with the mixture. Then pile them into your baking dish. It’s best to have enough apples in the dish that it’s mounded up, otherwise when it cooks your apples will shrink and your crisp will look indented on the top.

For the topping, put 3/4 cup flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1/4 cup brown sugar into a medium bowl. Your butter should be between cold and room temp, so I suggest setting it out on the counter for about 20 minutes before using.
Cut your butter into small chunks. Then, mix all your dry ingredients in the bowl. Next, put your butter in the bowl and start working it into the flour and sugar mixture with the back of a fork or a pastry blender.
Keep mixing until it is all coarsely crumbled. Then sprinkle it on top of your filling, making sure all the apples are covered. Now we’re going to bake it in the oven at 375ºF for 50 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy.
Let it cool for at least 30 minutes. See how mine indented a bit? It’s fine since it was just for dessert that night. However, if you’re making this for a holiday or to take to someone’s house, always use more apples than you think you’ll need for a prettier finish.
You can serve this warm or cold, and it’s amazing with vanilla ice cream!
